Guinness chocolate stout milkshake (adult treat)
At first I was planning on going with an ice cream treat, but the end result turned out to be a delicious milkshake! Nothing says fun and booze like an adult milkshake. With the Irish holiday upon us, this is a fun drink you can serve to friends at home, while hanging out remembering the days of bar hopping and late nights followed by early mornings. Many of us are too tired for that now, but this drink, along with some stew or shepard’s pie, and you will be surely celebrating St. Patrick’s day in style.
Nice thing about this recipe is you don’t have to have an ice cream maker, just a good freezer bowl. Use same instructions for ice cream maker, churning for as long as your manual says. *Recipe can also be found on Foodgawker.com
Guinness chocolate stout milkshake
- 1 cup water
- 2 T cornstarch
- 1 can of evaporated milk
- ½ cup condensed milk
- 2 cups sugar
- ¼ tsp kosher salt
- ½ cup to ¾ cup chocolate stout
- In a heavy saucepan, dissolve cornstarch into water on medium high heat, whisking until thick, about 2 minutes
- Add rest of ingredients (not stout) to pan, lowering temp to medium heat. Stir until sugar is melted, should take about 2-3 minutes
- Let cool for about 20 minutes, add stout (if using an ice cream maker, pour contents and churn at this point)
- If using a freezer bowl only, pour into bowl and let freeze for 45 minutes. Stir mixture and let sit another 30 minutes
- Make milkshake: You can blend with some ice and a little milk for a thicker milkshake, or you can scoop into cups and stir until soft. Drink and enjoy!
Ok I would seriously have about 3 of these milkshakes they look so good. You would probably advise against this though right? 😉 Looks amazing.
haha 3 might be a few too many but enjoy one at least! thanks
I love how easy it is and how delicious this sounds!!
Thanks Jessica!
“Nothing says fun and booze like an adult milkshake” <- ain't that the truth! I'm so glad you made a boozy drink for today's party. It's only 10 am and I wish I had a giant pitcher of this at my desk. I hope you have a happy St. Patrick's Day!
back at you Nancy! I think a giant pitcher on your desk/my desk sounds awesome
Mmmm, I haven’t had a milkshake in a looong time. Better yet, I don’t think I’ve ever had a boozy one so I better get started on this because it sounds amazing!
You are too sweet Connie!

First I want to say I absolutely love the name of your blog! Baking in slippers is the only way to bake… that and PJs 😉 Now onto your milkshake! Adult milkshakes can never go wrong and I love yours! Very sweet and delicious!
Thanks Ally, I agree slippers are the best.
Janelle, beer and ice cream! I love it! It sounds like the perfect combination.
Thanks Derik!
Lol I’m one of those that’s too tired! 😛 But I do love celebrating anyway and I can’t think of a nicer way to do it than with a cool, creamy treat like this! Pinned, and sharing on FB & Twitter 😉
Thanks so much Allie!
