What’s apple crunch gotta do with it?

apple crunch left side darker I am a Tina Turner fan what can I say. Most of the time you would know this type of recipe as a crisp, but hey why not a crunch since the top gets crunchy and crumbly? So like Tina Turner, I am doing my own thing, making my place in the apple world. Great served warm with vanilla bean ice cream. You know it. Can also be seen on Foodgawker.

4-6 medium apples, peeled, cored and chopped into chunks (I used galas, but a tart granny smith would move mountains)

1/4 cup water

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1/2 tsp ground ginger or nutmeg

1 cup sugar

3/4 cup AP flour

1/2 tsp salt

1 stick unsalted butter at room temp

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a baking dish, cast iron skillet or oven safe ramekins

Place apples and water (or lemon juice) in a bowl and mix

In separate bowl, mix cinnamon, nutmeg or ginger, sugar, flour and salt together. Cut in butter until mixture resembles small peas. Add apples to baking dish and top with flour mixture until covered. Bake for 35-45 minutes or until apples are tender and top is brown. Serve warm with ice cream or let cool to room temp, cover tightly and store at room temp for up to three days.
