Writing Process Blog Tour

I have had a the good fortune to meet some great people while going down this food blogging path.  The community is very supportive, cheering each other on, sharing posts and recipes, answering questions, and just being plain awesome.  One of these awesome bloggers is Prudy from butter, basil, and breadcrumbs.  She has been such a sweetheart and friend to me, and when she asked me to do the writing process blog tour, I was flattered and just had to do it! Not only is the name of her blog just plain awesome, she has great recipes, wonderful photos, and her writing and food make me want to live next door to her and hang out.  She is super darn pretty to boot! I look forward to seeing all she does in her blogging future.  I have to say it was hard to pick a recipe to post about here, but her lemon chicken linguine makes me hungry every time I see it. It’s on my to-do list to make very soon! http://butterbasilandbreadcrumbs.com/2014/05/01/lemon-chicken-linguine/

Onto the concept at hand- basically a blogger introduces you as the next in line to answer questions, and you write a post and introduce three bloggers yourself.  Since I know some great bloggers, this was easy as pie (pun intended)  So first order of business, the questions:

1) What am I working on?  Currently what am I not working on?? Ha! My Facebook group Spoonful of Foodies is doing a summer e-book, we complied or created recipes to put together an e-cookbook for people who might need some go to recipes.  So right now I am getting the Fall edition organized (only in my head at this point).  I am freelancing and doing some recipe testing, as well as a 10 recipe monthly themed food blogger challenge.  Always thinking up or writing down lists of new recipes to make and photograph, and trying to branch out into sponsored work and collaborations. I am of the mindset that when you get a great core group of people together to work on something we all love, you get fabulous feedback and ideas.  So stay tuned!

2) How does my work differ from others of its genre?  Hmm good question. Lots of baking blogs out there, but I have branched out more lately with many savory options, including vegan and vegetarian, and this is totally by accident.  I think I have some actual classroom knowledge since I went to culinary school, but I lack food experience in that I have never worked in the industry. I guess I would say I bring some sass and color to the mix

3) Why do I write what I do?  I started blogging to write about culinary school, and found it wasn’t that interesting!  I took a photography class, got a fancy camera, and wanted to have an online portfolio for whenever I figured out what I wanted to do with this food blogging knowledge (still working that out)  I know desserts pretty well so I wrote what I knew about.  And I love to chat, but I am shy when I meet people, so online it can be easier to engage, at least for me.

4) How does your writing process work?  All over the place! I am pretty organized, but with writing it depends.  Lately I have been scribbling on paper while I create, and then I go to wordpress and do a draft, save it in word/google drive and take the photos.  I have gotten better about writing everything up while it’s baking/cooking so that way I don’t forget little notes or tips/tricks I want to add. I don’t have a posting schedule, but I do work full-time so I try and space out my posts in case I won’t have time to get new stuff written up and photographed on a regular basis.  Blogging is awesome, but it’s a lot of work, time, money, and your mind is always going. But I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

And now my three awesome bloggers I am passing the torch to!

First is my Facebook bff Trisha from the lazy mom’s cooking blog.  She has talent beyond words, and is going to be the next big thing.  She is sassy and practical, smart as a whip, and funny as a stand up comedian. I think we “met” on Facebook, I remember loving all her recipes and photographs.  She should have 10x the amount of follower she has, and she works hard and is my right hand woman in the food blogging world.  We think so much alike it’s crazy, and she is a great mom and friend.  Her beef stir fry makes me want to weep with joy. http://www.thelazymomcooks.com/2014/05/beef-stir-fry/

Next is Derik from House of Bakes.  I am bad with remembering how I know people, but I do believe it was Instagram.  I loved all his pictures of brewing and bread, and I want to go to a pub with him and the other foodies and laugh until my face hurts.  He is a cool dude who puts up with a bunch of women in our group, and we love having him.  His writing is flawless, and he makes me want to make more bread than I currently do.  His hamburger buns are perfection. http://www.houseofbakes.com/easy-hamburger-buns/

Last, but not least is Rene from My Simple Kitchen.  She was introduced to me when we started Spoonful, and I am glad I am getting to know her! She is too adorable for words, and if we ever do a blogger parade, I am giving her a crown and making her wave to the crowd! Her blog is clean and simple, focused on the food and how easy it can be to create delicious food at home.  Her sweet potato cakes look amazing and that photo makes me want to invite people over for sweet tea. http://mysimplekitchen.com/sweet-potato-cake/

Prudy, thanks again for asking me to be a part of this, you are a gem and I look forward to our chats!  Go check out these great bloggers and remember it’s not the numbers that count, it’s the people and the food behind them.
