Sassy Ribs with Crazy Gringa Hot Sauce/GIVEAWAY

September 23, 2014 By bakesinslippers 20 Comments

ribs with gringa sauce towards front

*While I was given product to test, all opinions and recipes are my own. GIVEAWAY CLOSED! THANKS TO ALL THOSE WHO ENTERED!

Sassy ribs came about in part thanks to the power of social media. Crazy Gringa Hot Sauce is a local company run by a mom and son, who are making crazy good hot sauces right here in Omaha, with the art work being made by the daughter-in-law/wife of the founders. When I spoke to them about taking pictures of their sauces on Instagram, I was pleasantly surprised how welcoming and generous they were about sharing their products and offering some me to cook with! The sauces are delicious, ranging from Ghost Pepper, to Chipolte, with a limited edition small batch that they make up as well. I decided to use the Chipolte sauce to make my sassy ribs, and I am telling you they are a hit!  No matter how smoky or spicy/mild you like it, there is a flavor for you!   What I love about them is how they are all about the local scene, using peppers from their own garden to local producers and distributors.  Omaha believe it or not has a great local food scene, and I am a fan of promoting and eating food that is grown/made/created by those who live close to me.  So as a bonus to the ribs recipe (and my easy homemade fries) I am giving away a four set of these fabulous sauces! Pour some on your eggs, your hash browns for breakfast, tacos or a burger for lunch, chicken, fries, or ribs for dinner!  So many great ways to use them, and we want to hear yours!

To enter to win, like their page on Facebook, leaving a comment saying how you found out about them.  Leave a comment on this blog post, telling me which sauce you would use and how you would use one or all of their sauces.  Contest will be open until October 1st, so you an enter or tell you friends, maybe they will share a bottle with you. This contest is open to all of the U.S, so feel free to enter no matter where you live, I will ship them to you.

*They also have an Etsy page, where you can order the four main sauces, Jalapeno, Habanero, Ghost Pepper, and Chipotle.   Go check them out! Now onto my sassy ribs, which go in the slow cooker so you sear it and forget it.

  ribs with gringa sauce dripping

Sassy ribs

1-2 pounds bone in ribs, wiped dry (double recipe if making for a bigger crowd)

1 tsp kosher salt

1 tsp black pepper

6 oz red pepper jelly (I used Trader Joe’s brand. Use whole 11 oz can if making bigger recipe)

3 generous T Crazy Gringa Hot Sauce Chipotle flavor

Half a red onion diced

(can add half a bottle of your favorite bbq sauce and some red beans if you are feeling fiesty)

Heat a cast iron pan or regular pan on stovetop over medium high heat.  Sprinkle salt and pepper evenly over ribs and sear on all sides until browned.

Place in crockpot.

In small saucepan, heat pepper jelly, hot sauce and onions over medium heat until everything is combined, pour over ribs

Slow cook for 6-8 hours and add more hot sauce if so desired.  Can serve with rice or my easy homemade baked fries.

I am most interested in trying the ghost pepper sauce because I have always wanted to see how hot they are. All of the flavors sound great though. I would most likely use them to spice up chilis and casseroles, but I could also see using them as a straight condiment.

Looks amazing, Janelle! Love how easy they are too! I would totally go for the Chipotle one first, but I’d like them all, I’m sure. I’d probably use them first with eggs for breakfast — I LOVE eggs for breakfast and always use some sort of hot sauce on them.

I’m a huge hot sauce fan and all of these flavors sound delicious! I would use them in dips, as glazes and everything in between.

I would love to try their hot sauce, especially since my nephew is a Nebraska State Trooper. I’d love to be able to tell him about a new food item from his adopted state.

I think I’d use either Chipotle or Jalepeno. I’d do ribs or spice up meat for burritos or fajitas. Endless possibilities!
