Thank you to Plank Seafood for putting on such a great event for us Omaha Bloggers! While we were treated to such fabulous food, all opinions are my own.
I have to admit, I am not a seafood person at all. But I wanted to try something new, expand my foodie horizons, so I asked to be a part of this Omaha Blogger Event. I have to say, my gut instinct was correct-this place is fabulous! Located in the Old Market, it’s on the corner in a beautiful building, with lots of windows and great natural light (for a food photographer, this is very important!). The hostess was super friendly and right away took great care of me. I started with a happy hour drink special, a spiked lemonade called the Mainsail Limoncello, made with housemade limoncello and lemonade. Now that is a drink I can get used to.
The menu has something for everyone, including the baked mac and cheese (the mini cast iron skillets were a favorite addition of mine) made with cheddar, homemade bechamel, cavatappi pasta, and parmesan breadcrumbs. This dish people, is a dish they should write books about. The cheese was melted just so, the breadcrumbs gave it a nice crunch, and the paprika gave it a mild spice that just took it up a couple of food notches. Note: You can also get a lobster mac and cheese, but this is not on the happy hour menu.
The braised beef flatbread-I cannot tell you how many pieces I had of this because it was THAT good. The caramelized onions, havarti cheese, with a sherry reduction and blue cheese sauce married so well with the baby arugula on top, I would marry this flatbread if that was possible. It was served on a cutting board, which for me presentation is everything. This dish feeds plenty, so get it to go with the oysters or pan fried grouper, one of their most popular dishes.
Last, but not least, because there were other great items tried during the event were the oysters. The blue point oysters, which were served to us during our dinner, are flown in three times a week, so you know you are getting fresh seafood. I had never in my life had one, and I went all out, having the homemade cocktail sauce, the horseradish, and ginger mignonette sauce on top of this prized little gem. I have to say I went for it, and wow I am glad I did! It had a hint of saltiness, with the smooth and hearty texture that oysters are known for. If you haven’t had seafood, or aren’t sure about it, Plank is the place to try it out. I am going to go back again, and order the oysters, something I never thought I would write, let alone say!
So if you are looking for a new place to eat, be it a family night out, date night or girls/guys night, give Plank Seafood a try! With so many different foods to try, even if you aren’t a seafood lover, you can find other great dishes to try and share.
And there is more! Join our Twitter party on September 29th at 9-10 pm CST for a chance to win gift cards, to treat yourself out to a night on the town-because honestly, who of us couldn’t use one of those?? See details below:
